Term 1 2024 Class Information – Dance Styles – Pricing – Current Deals
UCanDance offers a range of different dance style for you to get down and groove with. Read on for more information about our current classes and a description of the styles currently on offer.
Semester 2, 2024
Monday Classes (15 July to 19 August)
Latin Dance (Rueda) and West Coast Swing
Location: Ilam School Hall, 66 Ilam Road
Time: 6:45pm – 9.30pm
On Mondays this term we are focusing on partner dancing. First up is Reuda at 6:45pm. Followed by a short break to cool off and re-hydrate. Then we learn West Coast Swing at 7:45pm. After class is finished there’s an opportunity to put your new skills to work on the dance floor with some social dancing.
New to partner dance? Don’t have a partner to bring? Don’t worry! Beginners are welcome at all of our classes. We change partners throughout class so you get to meet lots of people.
Class will be held at Ilam school hall, 66 Ilam Road. You are able to use the staff car park while class is on.
Bring your water bottle! Refills are available as there is a kitchen on site.
Thursday Classes (18 July to 22 August)
Line Dance and Ceilidh Lessons
Location: Westburn School, 257 Waimari Road
Time: 7pm – 9.30pm
Thursdays at UCanDance this term are about turning up and giving dance a go. It’s a great night to come as a group, or meet new people.
We start with Line Dance at 7pm – no partner needed for this style! As on Mondays we take a short break to catch our breath before diving in to a Ceilidh lesson. It’s a crazy 45 minutes of partner swapping, skip stepping and general shenanigans. The night winds up with a chance to socialise or dance.
Class will be held at Westburn School, 257 Waimairi Road. There is parking near the hall. Drive close to the gate and it will open automatically.

Bring your water bottle! Drinking fountains are available for refills.
Rueda
Rueda de Casino is a type of salsa round dance. Multiple couples dance in a circle with one person calling out moves for the group, including switching partners!
Classes will include basic salsa footwork and new rueda moves each week. This dance style is a favourite at UCanDance.
West Coast Swing
A fun, social partner dance style that focuses on the conversation between lead and follow. It’s danced to all kinds of music; including blues, R&B and country
Each class teachers 3 beginner moves that can be mixed together to create a new dance every time!
Ceilidh Dancing
UCanDance is throwing a Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) in September. It’s a Scottish party with dancing and folk music.
You don’t have to know any other dances to attend a Ceilidh, but these classes have you looking like a pro at our party.
Line Dance
A fun synchronised group dance – no partner needed! In Line Dance we learn to get our groove on alongside a song or three with some cool foot work.
It’s not all country music. Our favourites to dance to include S&M (Rhianna) and Shivers (Ed Sheeran).

Pay for 9 classes and your 10th class is free! Pick up a member reward card and get it clicked at each class.
Terms and Conditions: only available to current club members. Expires 2 years after issue date (or at the discretion of the executive committee). Cannot be used in conjunction with any other deals or offers.
5 Class Pass
Pay for 5 classes and save $$! Makes getting in the door at classes fast and easy, no more fussing about with cash or bank transfers every time. Just get your card clicked and you’re off dancing
